We’re celebrating Rhone Week here at Papilles. It’s an effort to raise awareness of the different appellations in the Rhone other than Chateauneuf du Pape. This week, we’re featuring 2 reds by the glass from the Rhone. First we have Domaine des Coteaux des Travers from the village of Cairanne from the Southern Rhone. It’s made by 3rd generation vigneron, Robert Charavin from Rasteau and imported by our friend Charles Neal who describes the wine, “Show(ing) a powerful nose of wild myrtle, cherry and plum. Full-bodied yet with some finesse, this wine is great with any sort of roasted meat.”
Secondly we are pouring a unique Northern Rhone wine made from old vines “Serine,” thought to be a long lost iteration of Syrah. Our wine featuring this varietal is Domaine de Pergaud, Vieille Serine from St-Julien en St-Alban found on the opposite side of the Rhone. It’s made by Eric Texier, a nuclear engineer who chose winemaking as a second career. He makes his wine naturally, employing organic and biodynamic vineyard practices and for this particular wine adds no sulfur at all.
Please come give these wines a swirl!
